P: Academically speaking, one's GPA and LSAT are the two most important statistics when looking into law school.
P: The GPA of a graduating student cannot be compared fairly (in a relative sense) with that of a student from a different school.
P: The LSAT is not arbitrarily unfair.
P: GPA is not as reliable an indicator of competency as the LSAT.
P: Success in the first year of law school directly correlates with success on the LSAT's.

It could be argued that GPA's from two different schools could be compared fairly. Obviously if you are competing with a student going to harvard, that student will very likely get the spot ahead of you simply because they went to harvard, but for more normal schools, I think they would weigh GPAs in a similar way. Do you think that the way Williams College awards GPAs is really that much different from the scale here at MCLA. I do not think it is. They may have slightly higher GPAs, but that is because they are supposed to be the smartest kids from around here. Do you see what i am saying?
ReplyDeleteYes, I do agree that there is a certain line between top tier schools, and the rest. I added relative, because even though they may be comparable, the LSAT would be more reliable. Whether or not admissions treat one student's GPA over another does not matter as much as the fact that because they can differ, for whatever reason (grade inflation, cirriculum, the professor, extra credit, ect.) the LSAT is a better judge when comparing two students. I can see where my wording is not very clear. Do you see where I'm coming from?/Have any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI think it would be better to reword your third premise. Like we talked about with the definition rules, it would be good to get rid of those weird negatives, it makes it pretty confusing. Other than that I can see where you're coming from with the GPA stuff.
